Charcoal Grills

A charcoal grill is the choice of professional grillmasters - those that go to barbecue festivals and contests. The reason is simply that you get more of the smoke flavor so associated with barbecuing, and you can get greater variety in the flavor by the addition of different woods and herbs. One other plus in favor of the charcoal grill is that you can fuel your fire with either charcoal or wood!!

On the negative side there is less control of the temperature on a charcoal grill which makes it necessary to monitor it more closely, and more clean up is usually required - like disposing of the left over ash. Master the techniques of the charcoal grill and you will have acquired the basics to master any type grill.

Part of learning to master this type of grill means learning to set up the fire properly in order to achieve the desired results. Check our articles page for information on special charcoal grilling techniques.

Some of the extra features to look for in a charcoal grill are both top and bottom adjustable vents, sturdy legs, a grate to hold the charcoal above the bottom of the grill and an ash catcher.
